" But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. " ~James 1:6-7 KJVS~
I once spoke to a chief Foreman and the words he spoke to me, I have kept till this day. He said, " Pastor, to be a foreman you must have inner fortitude and tenacity. You cannot be a fickle person and oversee the construction of any building. " He then explained his words to me.
For a foreman to be excellent at his work, he needs to know a lot of things. Most importantly, he has to know what type of land he will be building on. No matter what any experts say, it is easier to build on a softer soils than on hills and mountains (rocks). If he doesn't know this fact, any empty-head/ignoramus/fool can walk of the street and shout, "I knew it!! You don't know anything about building that is why it is taking you so long to build. Look over to the man who is building at the beach. He is already done building and here you are still laying the foundations. You don't have the know how, you don't have the gift and you are not called to do this work!!"
If the foreman is in anyway inexperienced, he will try and please the person and try to speed up by making adjustments that will cause defects in the foundation of the building. These defects may not be initially seen, but will later on cause the buildings collapse.
Secondly, the foreman must be prepared to stand his ground. Some customers will always be cheap. They want a mansion built only with the cheapest of materials. When a foreman agrees to such shoddy work, the end product speaks to people more about the foreman's ability and a certain reputation is formed about him rather than speaking about the customer's chiselness/cheapness. Such customers want their buildings finished tomorrow and therefore use cheap, faster drying cement (which breaks down faster) to build. If a foreman will last in the business, he cannot just allow any type of shoddy work to be done with the aim of finishing quickly. No!! Every batch of stones, sand, cement, etc. must first be inspected by the foreman before being purchased. He must diligently select what he intends to use in building the best structures. Every worker's work must be inspected in order to prune/remove lazy, complaining, pompous and greedy workers so as to avoid these workers influencing other hardworking and dedicated workers. With these things in place, a foreman is guaranteed, more often than not, a successful completion of a building that will stand the test of time.
Finally, a foreman must know the people he is dealing with. Most ignorant people do not understand anything and will complain about everything. They want you to do what they can never do in their life time within one day. If you don't finish within that day, they complain about you and talk about you to no end. With such people, a foreman needs to learn how to smile, ignore and walk away from their noise. They want you to be under them and do what they want. If you do so and disaster strikes, they will turn around and blame you because you are the foreman and should know what to do. These are some of the things a novice Foreman has to go through, fight and overcome in order to be respected at his workplace by those who hire him and by those who work for him.
Brethren, I intentionally talked about hazards a foreman experiences on the job because I want you to understand that as you have made decisions/resolutions and followed through to make subsequent plans for this year 2019, you are in essence appointing yourself as foreman. Your main task is to see to the execution and accomplishments of these plans. For this reason you will face people who, upon seeing you begin to build /improve your life, work ethic, ministry, etc. will tell you how unfit, how much of a disaster you are and why what they believe about you is truer than whatever God may tell you about yourself. They will try to stop you from following your resolutions by telling you that you are proud and arrogant for not accepting their estimation of who you are and not allowing them to dictate what you do. In essence, they will behave like the ignoramus who keeps complaining and railing against the foreman(you).
The question this year 2019 is: will you allow outside noise to cripple the fulfillment of God's desire for your life or are you just a people pleaser? Do you really want a great change and improvement in your life or do you just want to be liked by people who don't really like you or appreciate you and find any excuse to rail against you?! If you do choose to make a difference in your life this year and stand as an unmovable foreman of your life, you will loose a lot of these colleagues/friends/bystanders because you'll begin to stand out. As the foreman of your life, you will choose to implement a daily quiet time in building yourself up spiritually. You will also choose to implement daily Bible reading, prayer, etc. in your life. As you do these things the changes will not come overnight.... but it will come.
As you keep doing these things and building yourself up spiritually and as a child of God, you'll realize that the promises of God concerning your life will begin to manifest one by one because ".......I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord , thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Jeremiah 29:11 KJVS
